I know this topic seems a little obvious, of course, your website copy IS important! What I am saying is, just how important is it?
The answer: VERY… IMPORTANT!!!
Your website should be many things; user-friendly, visually appealing, informative, but most importantly, it should be well written. Many people believe it’s the look of your website that matters, I mean, I should know, I design websites after all.
The appearance is important, don’t get me wrong… I’m all about a beautifully designed webpage.
But truly, what your website says speaks for you and your business, how it’s written matters! Grammar, word choices, individuality, it all matters! You want your website to stand out, and you can easily make sure it does by adding your personality and flair into the copy.

Some of the best websites I have designed or even visited are the ones that read as though I am talking to the business owner. Yes, you want to get all your information across, but catch your potential client or customer’s attention by breaking down the level of distance by being as personable as possible!
Your website is often the first impression of you and your business which is why it’s so important to have it reflect you and not what you think you should write. Your business is an extension of you so it should be an accurate representation! There are so many creative ways to clearly get your point across while still remaining fresh and unique.

We’ve all been there, where we feel as though we need to do or say certain things in our business because of what others do or what we feel like our business should be like. However, professionalism doesn’t have to mean you can’t have a fun website, you can and should have it written in a way that is identifiably you! You are the most unique part of your business, it will only benefit you to utilize that! Stand by the brand you have worked so hard to build, your clients will notice and appreciate it!
And if writing is not your strong suit, hire a ghostwriter! (Fun fact – I’ve hired a few ghostwriters myself!) You want to invest in your business, and this is a great way to do so. Ghostwriters specialize in sounding like their client, you will not be losing a personal touch by going this route. This is hard for some people to wrap their heads around, but think about it, you would hire a web designer if you couldn’t design the website of your dreams. Hold the contents of your website at the same value!

We have all been on a website that could use some work. Think about how you judged the business because of it, you don’t want your clients to think those things about you and your business. Take the time to create a website that is not only beautifully designed but has copy that you are proud of, that reflects you, and that is unique!
