When creating your website, a lot of people tend to focus on the design and layout, which don’t get me wrong, is very important, but don’t skimp on the website copy! What you write and how you write it are critical to your brand and your business.
Your website copy should be strategic, it should be laid out in a certain way, it should represent you and your business at first glance.

Here are my top 10 tips in writing amazing website copy:
Your voice matters
Write your website in your voice, don’t use jargon that you normally wouldn’t say or try and sound like what you think you should sound like. Allow your website to speak for your most authentic voice.
People will scan
Unfortunately, this is inevitable, many, if not most people will scan your website instead of reading it entirely. To make your content scannable, use headlines, sub-headings, different fonts, bullet points, and even blocked quotes.
Write for your audience
When writing your copy, approach it by getting in your audiences’ perspective. Be informative and to the point, think about the questions that your audience might have when visiting your page and answer them.
Call to action!
This is a must. You have to have a call to action on your website or what’s the point? Imagine trying to sell something without ever saying “buy this”. Go a step forward and make your call to actions clickable.
Have a fresh set of eyes edit
You may have read over your copy a million and one times but still, get a fresh set of eyes. They will catch errors that you have glossed over a thousand times because in your head you are reading what you intended to write.

Be proactive
Create urgency within your copy by avoiding using the past tense or passive voice. This will help encourage readers to follow through on your call to actions. Think how your copy reads to an audience who is quickly scanning and make sure it comes off compelling.
Arrange your content strategically
Similarly, to keeping your content skimmable, you also need to keep all of your important copy at the top of your webpage. Never assume that someone will scroll all the way down.
SEO should be your best friend
Research your keywords to maximize your on-page SEO. Think about how you search for things online and use similar phrases on your webpage. Don’t get too fancy, many google searches are the equivalent to toddler talk.
Be cohesive
Make sure that your design fits around your copy. You don’t want your layout to look like its combating itself. Use your headlines to incorporate your design, such as script or more bold fonts.
Don’t try to be too creative
It’s easy to get carried away but don’t overdo it when writing your copy, keep it simple and reader-friendly. Don’t use phrases that not everyone would know, stick to everyday jargon.
